Entry no.1, The unstoppable desire!
There was a philosopher (Descarte) who wrote “I think therefore I am”. With this he claimed that the ultimate proof of human existence is our awareness of our own thoughts. Maybe humankind always has had an urge to show that we are thinking beings. Writing down or somehow displaying your thoughts has served as a proof of that.
I also think people always have wanted to tell a story to pass on knowledge and experiences. In our caves we made paintings showing how we killed this herd of Mammoth and how we asked our God to help us. On runic inscriptions we can read about the bravery of Nordic men who where “trading” in eastern Europe. Besides sharing your knowledge with others I think you also write with the purpose to develop yourself. By writing down and spreading your words you hope to get others reactions back and share their experiences i.e. facilitate communication.
To display something in writing or with pictures is also an artistic expression. Some people have a need and find it interesting to create with colours and shapes but in this case it is not always the message that is most important instead it can be the process itself that fulfills the artist.
Perhaps people have an inherent need to put a mark in history, to get noticed as a thinking individual, some more than others. Maybe that is the reason for the unstoppable desire.
